This magnificent quality Hebrew-English Family Bible is a wonderful addition to all households. The Jerusalem Illustrated Bible, is a large family Bible, with side-by-side Hebrew and English text.  The many illustrations are made by Elhanan ben-Avraham, a Jewish artist living in Israel.  This Bible contains both the Old and New Testaments, with restoration of original names and meanings.

The Jerusalem Illustrated Family Bible has restored, with permission, the personal names in the New American Standard Translation of the New Testament to the form they had in Hebrew and Aramaic in the land of Israel in the 1st century AD.  Where a name appears also in the Old Testament, its Old Testament spelling has been retained.

All Biblical Hebrew names have meaning, the original Hebrew name of the Messiah - Yeshua - means "salvation", thus giving meaning and clarity to the message given by Gabriel, "You shall call his name Yeshua (salvation), for he shall save his people from their sins: (Matthew 1:21).  The name Jesus is a later tranliteration of the Greek Yesous used when the Gospel went out to the Greek-speaking world.

The proper pronunciation of the divine name of God was forgotten long ago.  The NAS, along with many English translations, renders the name as "the LORD".  In this edition, the four Hebrew letters of God's name are transliterated as YHVH which testifies to God's eternal and unchanging nature (I AM THAT I AM).

With the resurrection of the Hebrew language it is hoped that the restoration of the names to their origins and environment, along with the authentic illustrations, The Jerusalem Illustrated Bible will be an instrument of edification and restoration for all its readers.
